The Community Broadband Network (CBN) and the Access to Broadband Campaign (ABC) have come together to embark on a detailed study of "not spots" - areas of the UK which remain unserved by BT or cable broadband.
CBN and ABC are embarking on a joint study of the UK's "not spots". Both organisations regularly recieve mail from people and businesses who are trapped in areas unserved by conventional broadband services. While BT claims they cover more than 99% of the UK, there is no independant audit of this claim - even by Ofcom, who have struggled to extract the raw information from BT, can't comfirm their claims. ABC hopes to be able to provide some independant view of the state of tyhe UK's broadband landscape. CBN, on the otherhand, represents to 250+ community broadband schemese around the UK - many of these are already solving "not spot" issues. Their aim is to understand what scale of problem exists, and to develop plans to help communities otherwise abandoned. There is a body of evidence which suggests that many "not spots" are infact an indicator of economic activity in rural areas (see the Broadband Polemic" available on this site). CBN's and ABC's work in this area is critical to sustaining that success. If you currently can't get a good broadband service, or have been denied the kind of service you need, then visit this link to report your problem, and here to discover some of the options and solutions. |
