Technology is only great when its understood and applied in an informed way, which appreciates the social, political, and business ramifications.

Often the debates surrounding new technology, and especially broadband, are not well understood by those with influence, and the media understandably struggles to present important stories in an engaging manner. One reason for this is that technologists are notoriously bad at communicating, in plain English, what they are thinking and doing - and too often the application is less interesting to them than the technology anyway.

GTC's aim is to be a forum for new thinking, spelt out in a manner that anyone should be able to learn from - to attempt to move away from the geek-fest to a more balanced view of technology.
